POSTPONED: Test of BSD’s Emergency Communication System

Illustrations of cell phone ringing, text message notification and email notification

UPDATE: Wednesday, November 20, 5:30 a.m.

This test will be rescheduled for a later date due to a districtwide school closure.

On Wednesday, November 20 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., the district will conduct a test of our emergency communication system, SchoolMessenger. BSD families will receive a phone call, text message and email to the primary contact information they have provided in ParentVUE — which families are asked to verify at the beginning of every school year. The purpose of this test is to ensure that BSD families are able to receive district messages in the event of school delays, closures or emergencies.

Tips for Receiving District Messages

  • Contact information - Complete online student data verification every school year to ensure your contact information is accurate. If you have already completed your data verification this year, no further action is needed. If you have not yet completed the process, you may make changes now to update your record. If you need support accessing data verification, please reach out to your school’s office manager (elementary) or registrar (middle and high).
  • SchoolMessenger: Set up an account (online or via the app) to view previous messages and manage your notification preferences. Use the same email address used for online student verification in ParentVUE.
    • Phone calls: Save the phone number 425-456-4072 in your contacts to ensure that calls show up as “Bellevue School District.” There have been some reports of users who have received the calls as “Potential Spam.”
    • Text messages: To receive SMS texts from SchoolMessenger, send a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to BSD’s short code number, 67587. You will then receive confirmation that you have registered for SchoolMessenger notifications.
    • Emails: Check your Junk/Spam folder. Depending on your email provider, you may need to mark email from the Bellevue School District as “safe,” or “move to inbox” to ensure future messages will not go to hidden folders.

If You Do Not Receive the Test

If you do not receive the test message to your primary email and phone number on file in ParentVUE and the “Contact Allowed” box is checked, please contact parenthelp@bsd405.org. Your email or phone number may be blocking BSD messages, or other technical issues could be occurring.

More Details About Emergency Communications

The district communicates information on school closures and delays in a variety of ways, including:

  • Phone call, email and text message via SchoolMessenger
  • Pop-up notifications on bsd405.org and school websites
  • FlashAlert - FlashAlert is the platform BSD uses to communicate school closure information to local TV and radio stations. Families may sign up to receive FlashAlert messages from BSD and/or download the FlashAlert mobile app to receive push notifications.
  • Social media – Facebook and Instagram
  • Local news media
